Dog Training Classes

You will be required to attend at least one 5-8 week long professionally run training class with your new friend within 4 months of adopting.

According to a national study (http://www.petpopulation.org) 95.3% of all dogs relinquished to shelters by their owners had NO formal obedience training. 47.3% were relinquished for behavioral problems that could be corrected through training and education. The studies conducted by the National Council on Pet Population also showed that there is a strong association between owners that adopt a dog from a shelter and owners that give up that dog for behavioral reasons. The study showed that the majority of owners of problem-behavior dogs own these animals less than 3 months prior to relinquishment. Thus, there is a window of opportunity that provides guidance and help, but it is a very narrow window of less than 4 months. Boxers and Buddies believes in finding a permanent home for their dogs – families that are loving, dedicated, responsible and willing to work to keep an animal as part of their family. It is for this reason that the training requirement exists.
